summer pet tips for Tampa

By June 16, 2015Blog, summer pet tips

Summer is here and it is going to be a hot one.  This means a lot of  fun outdoor activities for you and your pet.  It is great to be able to share these times with our pets but being a veterinary clinic in Tampa, we see many cases where pets get overheated.  By taking a few precautions, you and your pet can have a great summer.

Our Tampa veterinarians have shared these basic tips to help keep your pet safe from the heat this year:

1) Restrict your pets exercise times to either really early in the morning or late in the evening.  This is important to all pets.  Heat stroke is a very common problem this time of year in Tampa.

2) Do not keep your pets in a car without the a/c running for any amount of time.  Temperatures in cars can get extremely hot and can kill your pet.

3) Always have water accessible to  your pets.  Since our pets regulate their body temperature different from us, water is even more important to them.

Our veterinarians in Tampa see heat related problems every year and hope that by following these 3 basic tips, you and your pet can enjoy a great summer.  Remember, staying cool and hydrated is extremely important for your pet.
