Pets and hurricane season in Tampa

By June 26, 2017Uncategorized

Summer is officially here and as of June 1st, we are in another hurricane season.  It is a regular occurrence living in Tampa Florida but we still have to take it seriously and be prepared.  This includes our personal preparation but also our pets.  Having a good evacuation plan for you and your pet is essential to a safe hurricane season.

Once again, our Tampa veterinarians recommend getting things ready well in advance.  Below is a short list of things to have when you and your pet are forced to evacuate.

1)proof of vaccination and tags

2)2 weeks of food, water and medications

3)bedding, toys collars and leashes

4)pet carrier for smaller pets

Hopefully we won’t have to worry about things this year but being prepared can make a stressful evacuation a little easier and safer for you and your pets.  Hillsborough county does have a couple of pet friendly shelters but check on line to see what the stipulations are so there are no surprises if you need to go.  If you have any questions, contact our veterinarians in Tampa and our staff will get you the information you need.
